The Boot compares Linda Draper to Joan Baez while sharing acoustic "Tether," from new album dropping this week

PREMIERE

New music from Linda Draper this morning over at The Boot! The acoustic version of Linda's protest song "Tether" closes her new album 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘱𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬, out this Friday.

"Evoking the righteous political folk storytelling of Joan Baez,” the site says, “the song is a powerful testament to the frustration and mourning many people have experienced throughout the pandemic. Over building fingerstyle guitar and a barebones backing fiddle, Draper's voice takes center stage to express exactly how she feels."

Release show this Friday in Brooklyn at Pete’s Candy Store. RSVP here. 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘱𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬 album pre-save here.

Linda Draper went south to film "'81 Camaro," and Orlando Sentinel has the details

FEATURE

Today in the Orlando Sentinel: Linda Draper talks spontaneity. Like, how about the time she thought it would be fun to learn to line dance, took a line dancing class that evening at Cowboys, and then filmed her first attempts and included them in her new “’81 Camaro” video?

Yeah, she did that!

The tune is on Linda’s upcoming album 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘱𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬, out later this month. Pre-save at https://smarturl.it/y2fm3o.

Adobe & Teardrops features Linda Draper's "charming" new music video

FEATURE

“In her charming new video, Linda Draper bids farewell to New York and takes a deep dive into nostalgia and Americana." Gotta give thanks to Rachel over at Adobe and Teardrops for this post of the “’81 Camaro" video, which depicts that tiny sliver of time this summer when peeps were back to cruising in cars, going to carnivals, and line dancing.

I’m also partial to Linda’s selfie acoustic version, where she’s interrupted by the door buzzer. New album Patience and Lipstick is out January 21!

Americana UK highlights Linda Draper's masterful lyricism in an "'81 Camaro" feature

FEATURE

Americana UK is featuring Linda Draper’s latest single "'81 Camaro" today! The song feels like a straight-ahead country number, but Jonathan Aird touches on the candid lyrics. He notes that Linda "is not a puller of punches... she calls out some suspect thinking, with just a little touch of the old country sarcasm: ‘You say money can’t buy happiness / Well then give away your money and tell me how it feels to be free / Are you happy now?'

I love that lyric, too. Linda's a master at this kind of subtle, but emotionally startling, writing. Find the song, video, and a fun acoustic performance here.

Americana Highways premieres Linda Draper's "'81 Camaro" and includes it on the "New Americana" Spotify playlist

Video Premiere

I'm excited about the way Linda Draper manages to infuse this easy-breezy country number, “’81 Camaro,” with candid, emotional ambiguity, a trademark traceable to her anti-folk roots. It's the trick of a master and Linda brings the same energy to the video (featuring authentic country line-dancing filmed at Cowboys in Orlando). She tells us, “I have never had more fun making a music video. We shot it in Orlando, partially at Fun Spot amusement park, checking out the coolest classic car show in town, playing games in the arcade, going on rides, and drinking beer.”

Americana Highways has the video premiere and writes that the song carries “feelings of longing, in a delightfully blended brew." The site has also featured the track on its new "New Americana" Spotify playlist, a veritable treasure trove of great new songs. I love when artists discover kindred spirits this way, as Linda did this weekend when she discovered Julian Taylor’s tune "It's Not Enough" and promptly knocked out a TikTok cover. Julian says, “I’ve never had anyone on TikTok sing along with one songs. Thank you Linda. You made my day :-)” If you’re on TikTok, why not give Linda a follow?

New album 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘱𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬 is out January 21.

Americana UK shows love for Linda Draper's "Tether"

Track Feature

More love from the UK for Linda Draper’s current single "Tether.” I love how Jonathan at Americana UK frames Linda's defiant lyrics on this tune: “Linda Draper is having none of it – this pretense that when disasters strike they strike us all equally and we’re suddenly all in a unified state.”

As she sings, “Talk is cheap, still they keep speaking in their crooked tongues / Trying to sell me the idea we’re all in this together / I beg to differ… I beg to differ / We were never all in this together / There is no tether nor was there ever." From the upcoming LP Patience and Lipstick, out January 21 on South Forty Records.

York Calling shares Linda Draper's "haunting, evocative" new single "Tether"

From New York to North Yorkshire, it’s Linda Draper! York Calling has coverage of “Tether,” the first single from upcoming LP 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘱𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬, which the site calls “haunting” and “evocative.” Link in bio. Look for the full LP this coming January from South Forty Records.

Big Takeover premieres "Tether" and praises Linda Draper's penchant for twisting darkness into sing-along

Track Premiere

Big Takeover says, "At its core, Linda Draper’s ‘Tether' is a protest song. It is a message of passion, blunt truth, and Draper’s personal reality, and it calls for patience." I'm all for patience, but I also want you to jump on the premiere of "Tether," which serves as “a perfect example of Draper’s special way of twisting a dark tune, tinged with the appropriate cynicism, into a sing-along.”

The single arrives this Friday. Pre-save it at smarturl.it/1s2cbw.

Linda Draper leans country, 20-years into her songwriting career, on upcoming "Patience and Lipstick," out Jan. 21st, 2022

NEWS

“I asked them what the secret to a long and happy marriage was,” Linda Draper says, recalling a post-gig conversation with a pair of married fans.

“Jack is very patient,” Ivana, a flight attendant who works long hours, explained. “And Linda,” she continued, “I always carry a tube of lipstick in my purse. No matter how late it is, as soon as I turn the corner towards home, I reapply!”

Patience and Lipstick (Jan. 21st, 2022, South Forty Records) is now the fortuitous title of Draper’s upcoming new album, and the tunes on the currently Brooklyn, soon to be North Carolina-based artist’s latest feel like they came about just as naturally.

“So the secret to a long and happy marriage is patience and lipstick?!,” Draper thought. “You know, I think there’s a song in there somewhere.”

Patience and Lipstick, the latest album by Linda Draper, is scheduled for release on Jan. 21st, 2022 preceded by the singles “Tether” (Oct. 8th), “‘81 Camaro” (Nov. 5th), and “All In Due Time” (Jan. 7th).
