Pacifico's Matthew Schwartz hits back at the cruel music industry in a new interview with SPIN

FEATURE

Matthew Schwartz from Pacifico chats with SPIN today about a topic I am also too familiar with: The debilitating ways of the music industry!

The new Pacifico album 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 is about all manner of personal struggles with well-being. In this lengthy interview, writer Amanda Peukert focuses in particular on the single "Comatose," which makes the music biz its subject.

Schwartz says of the industry, "You’ve got to be the loudest person in every room, and, for me, that just isn’t healthy; I don’t like that." Amen!

MXDWN shares Pacifico's "stunning" new music video

PREMIERE

mxdwn is calling the new video for "Complicated, Confiscated" by Pacifico "stunning" this morning, saying, "The pain in his eyes is recognizable and relatable through his guitar and soft voice."

Frankly, songs performed direct-to-camera have to really go all-in to convince me and Matthew just gives everything here. I feel like 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 (the new Pacifico album, out February 10) is brave in the raw way it addresses Matthew's personal struggles with anxiety and depression.

This record doesn't feel shrouded in third-person pondering. Like with the "Complicated, Confiscated" video, it comes right at you. I can't wait for you to hear it in full! For now, check out the video or listen where you listen.

Pacifico's "eerily understated" new single premieres via Treble

PREMIERE

"Harbors a stormy undercurrent, reminiscent of both Elliott Smith and Radiohead at their most eerily understated."

"Complicated, Confiscated" is the latest single by Pacifico, out this Friday on Pacifirecords. Many thanks to Treble for premiering it this morning.

This one really gets me, as Matthew from Pacifico has so openly discussed writing this song as a mantra to get himself through crippling bouts of depression. He explains, "Each single, like every song on 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦, deals with a different form of self care. These songs deal with anxiety, depression, grace, patience, and drawing healthy boundaries."

Queen City Sounds and Art shares the video for Pacifico's "tenderly psychedelic" single "Afterglow"

Here we go 2023!

Queen City Sounds and Art describes "Afterglow" by Pacifico as a "tenderly psychedelic chamber pop song" with "beautiful acoustic guitar work and quietly luminous vocals and string arrangements that sound both melancholic and at peace."

A lovely thought to start the week, eh?!

𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 - the first Pacifico album in five years - is out February 10 (day before my birthday, fam!) with a record release show to follow (first full band show in a decade!) at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta on February 18.

Glide shares the video for the "cathartic" new single from Pacifico

VIDEO PREMIERE

Hi! The third single from the upcoming 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 by Pacifico (February 10, Pacifirecords) comes out this Friday and Glide Magazine has the video for "Comatose" today!

The site explains that Matthew Schwartz "conveys a sense of wisdom in the lyrics, which he sings in a way that is both jaded and exuberant to capture the mood. With its bouncy bass line and plenty of explosive guitar flourishes, the song ultimately feels like a cathartic rocker."

I'll add that if you dig a stadium-sized chorus, you will find one here!

New Pacifico single coming this Friday!

Check out the John K. D. Graham-directed video for "Afterglow" now over at Big Takeover! Click for your life.

Graham explains, “It’s a bit of motion collage that makes use of cut paper and video footage. I am a fan of Terry Gilliam, and his style was what I wanted to attempt.”

According to the band’s Matthew Schwartz, "The song is about someone losing their sight later in life, coming to terms with that change, and realizing that they have everything they need.

"We were lucky to have Peter Randall — bassist with The Kooks, Seal, and Adele — join us on this one.”

All-new Pacifico album 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 arrives February 10 on Pacifirecords. Limited vinyl bundles: are available at https://pacifico.bandcamp.com/album/self-care.

Pacifico shares the upbeat video for "Don't Play Dead"

PREMIERE

"Don't Play Dead" is the first single and video from the first album in five years from Pacifico. 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 arrives on February 10 via Pacifirecords.

Despite this song being about surviving depression, or more so about what comes before survival, it's still about the catchiest thing you're going to hear all day!

"Punchy and driving pop-rock... An impressive array of unassailable hooks," says Immersive Atlanta (see, I told you).

Even the director of the video, Dustin Jacobs, managed to find the light: "At the center is this couple. She's depressed, but he’s an eternal optimist, so he finds the joy and tries to share it with her."

"It’s a punchy and driving pop-rock anthem. Schwartz and company lead with their hearts, delivering nurturing support with an impressive array of unassailable hooks."

Pacifico's new single, premiering today on New Noise, is sensitive and intense

TRACK PREMIERE

The new Pacifico single hits that soft spot I have for sensitive songwriting inside of intense rock production. It feels sort of "caged" to me, like it's trying to get out and the struggle is the sound. Does that make any sense? Well, it does to me! See? I'm a sensitive guy.

“Suddenly / Back At The Start,” out tomorrow, is taken from the ‘05/‘22 EP (June 3, Pacifirecords). Both titles nod to the 17 years from start to finish for this project!

Visit New Noise to listen to the tune and read more about how that gap in time adds up.

Pacifico's Matthew Schwartz took 17 years to make his upcoming EP; “‘05/‘22” arrives June 3

NEWS

17 years is a long time to make an EP.

Pacifico’s upcoming “‘05/‘22” EP – the title being a literal nod to the how it started / how it’s going nature of the record –arrives June 3, 2022 on the Atlanta-based artist’s own Pacifirecords.

What was the artist-in-charge, Matthew Schwartz doing during the 17 years since beginning this Pacifico release in 2005 and completing it in 2022?

He was doing Pacifico.

Huh?

Indeed, this is the story of a lost hard drive. Musicians don’t do back-ups, after all.

Teamed with Jeremiah Edmond, Schwartz’s musical cohort in 2005 just prior to Edmond joining Manchester Orchestra, the recordings that have now been realized as the “‘05/‘22” EP, out June 3, 2022.

An all-new Pacifico album is also in the works for a late 2022 release.
