We All Want Someone To Shout For praises The High Water Marks, whose "infectious presence that simply soars"

FEATURE

Hello! Look, I can't keep praising The High Water Marks all of the time or you’ll be like, "Josh, you're their publicist. We need an objective point of view!"

Fair.

Here's what Will at We All Want Someone To Shout For says today about the first two singles from the upcoming 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘕𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘞𝘰𝘭𝘧 (out June 9 on Minty Fresh): "Wicked good... All the best elements of charming 90s power pop... in all the ways you'd expect from a band involving Hilarie Sidney, the co-founder of iconic Elephant 6 Recording Company. Sugary vocals, tight guitar riffs, and an infectious presence that simply soars."

That's it, there it is!

J Hacha De Zola collaborates with an original Dap-King on his new album, due this June

FEATURE

Back when he began recording 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘈 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘦, J Hacha De Zola called to say he was collaborating with Fernando Vélez, an original member of the Dap-Kings.

I started to imagine what Fernando's musical contributions and sonic wisdom would bring to this record when paired up with J's distinctive style and point of view.

Jedd Beaudoin of Strange Currency has already called 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘈 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘦 the "spookiest make-out record of 2023 or any other other year," perfectly capturing what my thoughts had aspired to!

Hear "Stay Away" now. 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘈 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘦 arrives June 9 via Caballo Negro, distributed by Slow Start Records! Photos by Adrian Buckmaster.

The exquisite sibling harmonies of The Chapin Sisters describe life on Brooklyn's Bergen Street

NEWS

The Chapin Sisters make you long to return to a place you may have never been before.

“Bergen Street” is the new single (March 31, Lake Bottom Records) from Abigail and Lily Chapin, the sibling members of what looks like a folk music dynasty, but in reality, is a proud family that has been making music for decades in the most humble of traditions.

Father Tom Chapin is a Grammy®-winning singer-songwriter, late uncle Harry Chapin is a legendary artist and social justice activist (his #1 hit “Cat’s In The Cradle” is a timeless classic), and grandfather Jim Chapin was an esteemed jazz drummer.

The sisters’ first new music since 2017’s Ferry Boat full-length, “Bergen Street,” which describes a stretch of Brooklyn road with its everyday “soot in the window ruts” and “air that smells of the tire dust” is an example of this humble and expertly crafted music-making.

It is voiced with stirring sisterly “blood harmony” in a way that only a family band – especially one with such a long history – can do.

Nathan at Austin Town Hall says: “I’m all about the execution of perfect pop... the melodic nature of the vocals galloping atop those fuzzy jangling guitars is just absolutely sublime."

Hilarie says: "It was a big year for us because we all got to record in Kentucky together and we played our first show together in Oslo with Pavement. I wanted to make a video with us in it and this one is like our greatest hits of 2022."

𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘕𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘞𝘰𝘭𝘧 (17 tracks!) is out June 9 from Minty Fresh.

Get lost in the dreamscape of Opal Eskar’s “Sunlight Is Breakin’ Out”

TRACK PREMIERE

In its premiere coverage of the debut single by Opal Eskar, Philadelphia's NPR-affiliate WXPN writes, "Longtime Philly scenesters Chet Delcampo (of Hong Kong Stingray and more) and Heyward Howkins teamed up with the comparatively new-to-town Karl Blau on a dreamy new project called Opal Eskar.

"Dappled in light bongo beats, a rippling guitar undercurrent, and layered vocal harmonies, the project’s new single is a Philly answer to Phosphorescent... 'Sunlight Is Breakin’ Out' is a reflection of the languid heat wave energy while a solid means of keeping sonically cool."

The debut self-titled EP by Opal Eskar is scheduled for release on May 19, 2023 via Spiral Valley Records.

Pacifico's Matthew Schwartz hits back at the cruel music industry in a new interview with SPIN

FEATURE

Matthew Schwartz from Pacifico chats with SPIN today about a topic I am also too familiar with: The debilitating ways of the music industry!

The new Pacifico album 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 is about all manner of personal struggles with well-being. In this lengthy interview, writer Amanda Peukert focuses in particular on the single "Comatose," which makes the music biz its subject.

Schwartz says of the industry, "You’ve got to be the loudest person in every room, and, for me, that just isn’t healthy; I don’t like that." Amen!

BPM covers The High Water Marks' "Trouble In The East," an earworm about "war and nuclear annihilation"

FEATURE

If you want your brain taken over by an earworm, I am offering you this opportunity!

As Joshua Pickard writes in Beats Per Minute: "Trouble From The East" by The High Water Marks is a "rocker of sustainable emotional malleability, using blissed-out guitar riffs and pop-centric harmonies to examine the impact of war and nuclear annihilation. Calling Norway home, the band knows firsthand about the perceived threat of violence from just across geographical lines."

MXDWN shares Pacifico's "stunning" new music video

PREMIERE

mxdwn is calling the new video for "Complicated, Confiscated" by Pacifico "stunning" this morning, saying, "The pain in his eyes is recognizable and relatable through his guitar and soft voice."

Frankly, songs performed direct-to-camera have to really go all-in to convince me and Matthew just gives everything here. I feel like 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 (the new Pacifico album, out February 10) is brave in the raw way it addresses Matthew's personal struggles with anxiety and depression.

This record doesn't feel shrouded in third-person pondering. Like with the "Complicated, Confiscated" video, it comes right at you. I can't wait for you to hear it in full! For now, check out the video or listen where you listen.

Desert Sun runs a fabulous feature with Dani Meza of the crushedvelvets

FEATURE

"The aneurysm affected his vertebral vein, so he isn't able to put as much pressure on his vocal cords or play instruments with the same intensity, but all of his attributes and innovative spirit emerge on each song."

I'm so happy that Dani Meza from the crushedvelvets recently got the opportunity to tell his story to Brian Blueskye of the Desert Sun, which is the daily paper in Indio — the town famous for Coachella where Dani grew up and still lives.

Click the image for the article and also video of the two talking music at Finders Keepers Records.

A full-length album by the crushedvelvets is in the works to follow-up Dani's trio of 2022 EPs called, "dreamy and soulful shuffles that have all the night-kissed grace of Julee Cruise and the poetic finesse of the Jazz Butcher," by Alex Green of Stereo Embers.
